Elegant Candlesticks & Inkwell, 1908 Cased by Vickery of Regent StreetThis is the most elegant cased pair of candlesticks, matched with an inkwell. These items were grouped together by J.C. Vickery of Regent Street, a jeweller that held a Royal Warrant. The candlesticks are by Williams Birmingham Ltd, the inkwell is by Miller Brothers Ltd, All the pieces were assayed in Birmingham in 1908. The case fits the pieces perfectly so the jeweller always intended for them to be together, or perhaps this was a case made on commission to suit a client. The ensemble works well together.

The sliver hinged lid is embossed with songbirds and blossoms, the cartouch is vacant. The interior of the lid has a gilt finish and is hallmarked. the lid seals nicely onto the silver collar which is also hallmarked. Made by Sampson Mordan & Co, assayed in London in 1899.
